The huge contribution of carers across Derbyshire will be highlighted next week with a tea party to mark National Carers Week.
Derbyshire Carers Association (DCA) is hosting the party on Friday 12 June at Derbyshire County Cricket Ground from noon until 5pm to raise money and awareness.
Visitors will be able to browse stalls and enjoy music performances as well as taking part in the usual tea party activities of eating cake and drinking tea.
Helen Dillistone, NHS Southern Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group director of corporate development, said: “Carers make a huge difference to the health and wellbeing of people across southern Derbyshire, which complements and supports the work of our healthcare professionals.
“We’re keen to show our support of them during National Carers Week and hope people will take part in the tea party fun to help raise money and appreciate all the good carers do in our communities.”
Useful advice for carers to help them find the right support and care for the people they look after is available 24/7 on the NHS Choices website at www.nhs.uk
This includes information on how best to care for children and older people when they have minor illnesses or scrapes which can be treated at home.
The website also offers advice about the care local pharmacists or doctors can provide, and a location or postcode search in an ‘urgent care’ search box so carers can find their nearest appropriate NHS facility.
Anyone who is unsure about a medical issue can ring the NHS 111 helpline for guidance.
Narinder Sharma Chief Executive Officer for Derbyshire Carers Association, said: “Our carers are incredible and we want to celebrate them in style at our tea party.
“The nature of carers’ work means they inevitably have many dealings with NHS professionals on behalf of the people they look after, so knowing where to go for the right healthcare is very important.
“I hope to see lots of people enjoying themselves and finding out useful information at our fun afternoon.”
Entry to the tea party is £5 for visitors, with free entry and refreshments for carers. To book a place call Derbyshire Carers Association on 01332 200 002.
