Derby GP Congratulates Urgent Care Service Teams On Winning Top Award

Dr Paul Wood,Chair of our Urgent Care Delivery Board has congratulated Derby Teaching Hospital Foundation Trust on winning a top national award for ‘excellence in emergency care’.

Dr Wood said: “I wanted to write to say thank you to every organisation and members of staff across all of our urgent care services for sustaining and improving our services this last winter and beyond. The award is a great accolade for colleagues in Derby and it is testament to the extensive urgent care transformation we have worked in partnership across the whole health and social care community in South Derbyshire over the past few years. Without everyone’s input and effort, such awards are not possible.

The award itself looked at a series of outcome measures, including waiting times for treatment and patient experience in A&E. Clinical audits were also included. From this initial analysis, six trusts were invited to submit a detailed entry and a final three Trusts were chosen to be visited by a panel of expert judges who then decided on a winner. As part of the judging process, Derby Teaching Hospitals were able to showcase the whole system transformation work which has been integral to the improvements achieved, as well as their local initiatives. Judges particularly highlighted the very strong links with the community which is an important feature of a high performing emergency department, and were impressed by the Trust’s clear focus on patient experience and their ability to demonstrate compassionate care and good outcomes.

I know that I speak on behalf of all of the organisations across our health community in saying that I’m really proud of the efforts of everyone who has played a part, supporting our emergency department in the face of unparalleled demand, as well as developing and implementing a wide range of other services and procedures which have helped keep this health system healthy while others have struggled. By working together, we have maintained the really high standards of care we have delivered to our patients during the past year. And our internal work within organisations – looking at our own procedures, handovers and a wide range of other things – should also not go unnoticed in helping to keep the system healthy. To be recognised nationally in this way is a fitting tribute to the work of our Urgent Care Delivery Board. “
