'Good' check up for Woodville Surgery

A clean bill of health has been given to Woodville Surgery following an inspection by an independent regulator.

Health services have been found to be ‘good’ across the board for being safe, effective, caring, well-led and responsive to patients’ needs.

It was even found to be ‘outstanding’ for using a pharmacist to review patients’ medicines, check for any possible negative side effects and highlighting any action to help the practice offer the best possible care.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has published the ‘good’ rating for the Burton Road GP practice following its inspection in May.

Inspectors particularly praised it for:

•Having overwhelmingly positive feedback from patients who said they were treated with “compassion, dignity and respect” and “were involved in their care and decisions about their treatment”

•working well with other agencies to ensure care and support was coordinated

•supporting staff well and provided on-going training to help them work at their best

•seeking feedback from patients – and acting on it.

To carry on improving inspectors recommended the surgery:

•ensures routine checks on equipment are documented

•makes more detailed records of meetings and information that is shared

•reviews policies and procedures.

Dr Mona Hannon at Woodville Surgery said: “We’re delighted by this positive report, which underlines our continuous hard work and passion for giving our patients the best possible care.

“We value feedback from our patients and having this review from independent experts will help us carry on offering good – and even outstanding – services.

“We won’t rest on our laurels and will carry on working closely with patients, partners and our CCG to build on our strengths.”

Kate Brown, director of planning and primary care development for NHS Southern Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “The practice works hard in its aim to offer good quality care for patients.

“It’s great to see this has been confirmed through independent assessment.

“Congratulations to everyone involved in this success.”
