Meet the New NHS Leaders at the Derby Telegraph

The quality of care for people with dementia will be a key focus at the fifth Governing Body meeting in public of the NHS Southern Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group

(SDCCG). Patients and the public are all invited to attend the meeting which will be held in the Boardroom of the Derby Telegraph, Northcliffe House on 21 December at 9.30am.

Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) have been established as part of the Government’s NHS reforms to shift decision making as close as possible to patients. SDCCG will, from April 2013, be responsible for designing and buying health services on behalf of local people in Southern Derbyshire.

Each meeting begins with the presentation of a patient story which highlights SDCCG’s commitment to putting patients at the heart of everything it does. This month will focus on dementia with the story of Stan Lintern, who has had Alzheimer’s disease for 10 years, and his caring wife Denise who last year was awarded an MBE for services to her local community.

Andy Layzell, chief operating officer at NHS Southern Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group, said:

“As the new leaders of the local NHS it is crucial that we are accountable to and fully involve local people in our decision making. So, we look forward to welcoming patients and the public to this month’s meeting being held at the Derby Telegraph. We recognise the important role that the Derby Telegraph plays in our local communities and we are keen to work closely with the Telegraph as part of our commitment to communicating effectively with the people of Southern Derbyshire.

“Members of the public will have an opportunity to ask questions about items on the agenda at the meeting and will be able to hear about our performance, priorities and progress towards authorisation as a statutory body.”

The meeting takes place on Friday 21 December from 9.30am to 12.30pm at the Derby Telegraph, Northcliffe House, Meadow Road, Derby DE1 2BH.

NHS Southern Derbyshire CCG represents 57 GP practices and is one of four clinical commissioning groups in the county established to take on the responsibility of health care for the people of Derbyshire.
