Public Warmly Invited to Governing Body Meeting

Patients and the public are invited to the next Governing Body Meeting in public of NHS Southern Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), which takes place on 23 August from 9.30am – 12.30pm at the Village Hall, Oaklands Village, Hall Farm Road, Swadlincote, DE11 8ND.

Any questions for consideration by the Governing Body should be submitted in advance to:

enquiries@southernderbyshireccg.nhs.uk.

Led by local GPs and other health professionals, NHS Southern Derbyshire CCG is responsible for the planning and purchasing of health services in Derby, Amber Valley, Derbyshire Dales and South Derbyshire. These services include planned and emergency hospital care, rehabilitation, most community services and mental health and learning disability services.

A video sharing the experiences of a local patient who has recently benefited from a hip replacement launches this month’s meeting. On average, 80 hip replacements take place each month in Southern Derbyshire and 90% of patients receiving a hip replacement are between the ages of 50 and 85 years old.

The CCG Governing Body will also be discussing its response to NHS England’s Call to Action, which calls on the public, NHS staff and politicians to have an open and honest debate about the future shape of the NHS in order to meet rising demand, introduce new technology and meet the expectations of its patients. The CCG will be developing a five year commissioning plan focused on how best to shape care around the interests of patients and communities for future generations.

Andy Layzell, Chief Officer at NHS Southern Derbyshire CCG, said:

“Our Governing Body warmly welcomes patients and the public to this month’s meeting in Swadlincote. We hold these meetings in public to offer local people a first-hand opportunity to see how we are working to improve health services in Southern Derbyshire.

“It’s important that patients have a much greater say in their healthcare and there are a number of ways that they can do that. Most of our GP practices now have a patient participation group which allows patients to work with the practice to ensure services are meeting the needs of local patients. The CCG also has a health panel where people with an interest in local health issues can register to become a member. Anyone interested in joining the health panel can call 01332 868677 or email enquiries@southernderbyshireccg.nhs.uk
