Health Leaders warn of Bogus Phone Calls

Health leaders from NHS Southern Derbyshire CCG are warning members of the public, patients and staff never to reveal personal details to unknown callers.

Some patients have been contacted in recent weeks by companies asking people about their health conditions and asking to make an appointment in their home.

Patients and the public should be extra vigilant when receiving unsolicited telephone calls, or contact of any sort from persons or companies they are unfamiliar with.

Requests for personal information should be treated with extreme caution and not supplied to the caller, even if they claim to know the details already.

Dr Sheila Newport, Chair of NHS Southern Derbyshire CCG, said:

No NHS organisation would ever cold call a patient to seek medical information. Our patient records are held in strict accordance with the Data Protection Act and would never be shared with anyone without patient consent. So, we are warning everyone to be extra vigilant should they receive a call that is claiming to be about their health.”
