NHS Southern Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), which plans and buys healthcare for 525,000 patients, has awarded the contract for Derby walk-in services to One Medical Ltd. These services provide a walk-in service to patients that require care for a condition that can be dealt with in one visit.
One Medical Ltd has been providing the services at the Derby Open Access Centre since 2008. The contract is for providing walk-in services at the Osmaston Road Walk-In Centre and the Derby Open Access Centre in Normanton.
Walk in services were reviewed as part of a public consultation which ran from 2 September to 30 November. The review was needed as contracts for services provided at the centres come to an end in March 2015.
At a public meeting held by the CCG in Derby’s Assembly Rooms last year, commissioners revealed that 81 per cent of the 1,217 people who had taken part in a survey wanted services to remain in Derby with additional services in Normanton.
Dr Sheila Newport, Chair of NHS Southern Derbyshire CCG, said:
“The CCG has followed a clear and transparent process to ensure that the best possible service is provided to patients.
“We received a high standard of contract bids from a number of quality providers but it was clear that patients would benefit most from the wide range of services that One Medical Ltd can provide. These benefits include patients having access to GP services at the Walk in Centre at Osmaston Road, the introduction of X-Ray services from 2016 and a patient education centre at each walk-in site.
“One Medical Ltd is well established in Derby and also run other walk-in services across the country.”
