Prime Ministers Challenge Fund

Southern Derbyshire CCG (SDCCG) has been successful in their bid to secure funding from the Prime Ministers Challenge Fund. The project will run for 12 months and will be focusing on the following areas of innovation and patient empowerment.

Electronic Prescribing Service (EPS2): This is a National initiative which will enable patients to collect repeat prescriptions direct from the Pharmacy of theirchoice without first having to visit the GP practice to collect the paper prescription.

Patient On-Line Access to Medical Records: It is now possible for patients to interact with their practice electronically via an internet link.  Patients will be able to book and cancel appointments, order repeat prescriptions, view vaccination records, and review their medical record (including test results and letters) on line, via a secure connection to the practice. It is also possible to start the new patient registration process on line.

Virtual Face to Face Consultations: Many practices are already offering telephone consultations to patients and these have become popular with patients who cannot visit the practice easily. Virtual consultations takes this idea to a newand innovative level enabling the GP to see the patient and make observations of visible signs, rashes etc. This would be invaluable to the house bound and other patient groups who have difficulty attending the practice in person.

Raising the Standard of Practice Websites: The practice Website is increasingly being used as a first port of call for patient information and patient interaction. Many practices are using their websites to supply a library of information, not only about their practice details, but also links to self-help guidance, links to National support  groups such as Diabetes UK and the Alzheimer’s. On line access and video consulting will be accessed are also accessed through the practice website, using secure personal login and password.
